Changes To Voting

Updates on how voting works.

How Voting Works

For those of you who don't know yet, you can vote on posts on Game Sense, and your votes will further change the scoree. The way it changes depends on the Post Topic. The more you level up by posting, rating, and voting, the stronger your votes become.

This makes it so gamers who don't like to post or write reviews can still have a voice. It also allows gamers to find the best and worst parts of a game based on votes.

Previously, the vote types were "Agree" and "Disagree" for whether you agreed or disagreed with the post and the Post Topic. However, based on feed back were going to make some changes.

Disagree votes are now known as nerfs, based around the idea that you're weakening that games post and the effect it has on a score. Agree votes are now known as buffs, since you are increasing the power that post has over a score.

This should make it a lot clearer what's happening when you cast your vote on a post.

Reduced Posting Impact

We noticed that some users were levelling up pretty fast and high, which is great. High level Game Sense Gamers are turning out some really good content, we're glad to have them with us. But, once they got too strong, they were posting videos and having too big of an effect on scores.

So, we've decided to lower the cap on how much change you make with a post, so you do not obliterate scores or raise some scores too high.

But We're Changing Voting

The Game Sense Gamers who have reached those levels deserve to have that power, they have proven themselves as great gamers who know what they are talking about. We don't want to take that power away, we want to give gamers more control over how they use the power they gain.

Now, not only do your votes get more powerful the more you level up, but you'll be able to "Buff" or "Nerf" a post multiple times. Each vote will do less than it did before, but you'll be able to cast more votes.

You can post your level, plus one extra vote. So if you're a fresh level 0, you get 1 vote, level 1 gets 2 votes, etc.

This should make it a lot easier for you to fine tune your voting and posts, so you have more control over scores of games. You can think of it as a means to fine tune your post's scores and influence with voting.

What Happens When I Post?

When you post, you automatically "Buff" your post once. Now, you will be able to vote again on your own post to adjust the score how you like. So, if you post a negative review of a game, and you feel the score should be lower, you can vote again to lower the score some more. And, of course, a positive review would raise the score more with extra votes.

You'll be able to vote more and more the more you level up.

What About Exting Posts?

We are aware some posts have had too much influence over a score, so we're going to let everyone retroactively go back and vote again on their posts. All votes will be reset to zero so you can vote again and fine tune scores.

What's Next?

We will be adding two new post types soon, it's our next major project. We consolidated Image and Review posts, now you can add images to any of your posts, which made Image posts redundant.

The two new post types will be great, we are excited for them. Specially because it seems there's not a good, politics free place to post what we have planned right now.

Thank you everyone for all your support and helping to keep Game Sense doing well. We have been growing at a very good pace recently, and I want to thank all of you for making it happen. As we continue to grow, we look forward to growing with you and making something really awesome.
