Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Origins offer free to play Discovery Tour week

Now here’s something cool. If you’ve been wanting to learn more about ancient cultures but can’t muster the energy to pick up a history book or browse through myriad documentaries, Ubisoft have your back. From now through to May 21st anyone can play Assassin’s Creed Origins or Assassin’s Creed Odyssey for free via their Discovery Tour game mode offerings. Note that this is for the PC version only – sorry, console gamers! In order to redeem your free copy you can head over to Ubisoft’s free events page. This is part of their “Play Your Part, Play at Home” initiative in response to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. For those who have never heard of the Assassin’s Creed Discovery Tour, it follows a rather clever premise that seeks to educate players as they explore Ubisoft’s lovingly created open worlds. You’ll bounce between checkpoint, reading encyclopedia entries, and learning more about the cultures of ancient Egypt and Greece. It’s a great idea and one that has allowed Ubisoft developers to repurpose a mass of painstakingly detailed assets into more than just props scattered around about their virtual playgrounds. We went hands on with the mode when it first launched soon after the release of Assassin’s Creed Origins. Make sure you check out the video above. Outside of the classroom, Discovery Tour by Assassin’s Creed is shaping up to be a fantastic way to explore the game’s setting in history. Ancient Egyptian history buffs will no doubt flock to try it out, but even for those with a more casual interest, this is a wonderful and engaging way to explore Egypt without worrying about soldiers hassling you or who your next assassination target is. Ubisoft recently unveiled the latest game in the franchise, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Slated for a 2020 holiday release, this new entry takes place during the Viking invasion of England.
