New Chrono Trigger patch adds new battle UI and battle pause functionalities

According to the release notes, this patch adds a new battle user interface (UI) based on the look and feel of the original game, an option to select between the UI optimised for controller/keyboard mentioned above, and the current UI optimised for mouse & touch panels, and a new pause button/key that can be used during battle.Furthermore, this patch improves the resolution of animated cut-scenes, increases the display area of animated cut-scenes, fixes instances where the game slowed down during certain scenes, and fixes other small bugs.

Chrono Trigger Update #2 Release Notes

  • A new battle user interface (UI) has been added based on the look and feel of the original CHRONO TRIGGER.
  • An option has been added to select between the UI optimised for controller/keyboard mentioned above, and the current UI optimised for mouse & touch panels. This option appears in “settings” in the main menu.
  • The game can now be paused during battle by using the pause button on controller, or the Space bar on the keyboard.
  • Adjusted the look of playable characters on the world map to be more in-line with the original version of CHRONO TRIGGER.
  • The resolution of animated cut-scenes has been improved.
  • The display area of animated cut-scenes has been increased.
  • Fixed instances where the game slowed down during certain scenes.
  • The Korean font has been updated.
  • Other small bugs are fixed.

The Steam port is notoriously bad, but it seems like this will help a little bit. Maybe some day it will be even better than downloading a ROM to play your legal back up :^)

Chrono Trigger deserves a lot better than the PC port, it's been horrendous but at least Square Enix is still making some effort to fix Chrono Trigger on the PC with the latest update.

Chrono Trigger

Chrono Trigger is a Japanese Role Playing Game released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and then later released on multiple other devices. It's unique in that the game has several different endings which all rely on the time travel feature of the game.
