Dragon Quest 11’s Switch Version is Being Delayed Because of “Technical Challenges
Square Enix announced today, to joyous JRPG fans outside of Japan, that Dragon Quest 11, the eleventh entry in the beloved, long running franchise, will be releasing in the west this year on September 4 on PC and PS4. That was great news—but conspicuously missing from the announcement were the Nintendo versions of the game. In Japan, the game was out on 3DS and PS4, and a Switch version has also been announced.
This is some really bad news. Postponing a release on a platform because of technical problems is usually a sign that the port might not even show up.
Worse, Gaming Bolt remembers that the Playstation 4 version only ran at 900p. They couldn't even get a full console to run the game at 1080p, let alone a hybrid portable. I image they are having a really tough time getting it to run well in Switch handheld mode.
This is bad news, I had hopes of grabbing Dragon Quest XI on Switch, but if it's going to come out earlier on the other platforms, I'm not sure I will wait.
