Dragon Quest XI Interview -- Producer Talks Switch Version, Localization, Story and Much More
DualShockers recently talked with Dragon Quest XI Producer Hokuto Okamoto about all things Dragon Quest XI, including platforms, localization, and more.
There's some good information here, including "censorship." The devs are promising the game hasn't been censored, only a few localization changes for things that Westerners might not get. Normally, that can raise some red flags, but they gave an example of a feature in Dragon Quest XI that referenced Pachinko machines, which is a pretty Japanese game that most people outside of Japan haven't heard of. So they changed it to Slots instead.
Another interesting bit of information is how they are going to use the PlayStation 4 version on the older version of Unreal Engine 4 as a "foundation" for the Switch version. So it makes it sounds like the Switch version will get extra work and extra attention. Not to mention it'll be using a newer version of Unreal Engine 4.
I am thinking I will wait for the Switch version, it sounds like it's going to get a bit of extra polish and effort put into it.
The whole interview is worth reading if you're a fan of Dragon Quest games. I suggest dropping by DualShockers if you are, it's a very interesting read that touches on some things that I'm sure DQ fans have thought about, like the series going "open world."
