While the first entry in the series is praised for its interesting characters and good story telling (for an FF game at least), this game takes a more relaxed route regarding story telling. The main character is not particularly interesting, but not annoying either. He and his school friends are transported to the world of Final Fantasy where they encounter Bangaas, monsters and the like. This one involves the usual tropes: finding crystals, saving the world etc... Marche is not the bad guy no matter how much he seems like it. The story isn´t a deal-breaker though, just keep in mind its not supposed to be taken seriously like the first entry in the series.
