There’s a right chonker of an April update out now for Halo: The Master Chief Collection, adding the new ‘Waterfall’ map to Halo 3 in the game, the new Escalation Slayer game mode, kicking off Season 6: Raven of the game’s revitalised multiplayer and more. The update is out now across Xbox consoles and PC, weighing in at the following eye-watering sizes: Halo: The Master Chief Collection – Season 6 Update Steam: max size of 23.99 GB Microsoft Store and Xbox Game Pass for PC: max size of 50.58 GB Xbox consoles: max size of 55.16 GB That’s a lot of patch, and almost half the size of the game as a whole on Xbox and via the Microsoft Store! In fairness, the update does do a lot for the game. Season 6: Raven adds 100 new tiers of customisations to unlock, largely based off Fireteam Raven and Halo Online. A new Exchange lets you spend season points on past season content, in case you missed out. There’s also the new Waterfall map for Halo 3, which was originally made for the Halo 3-derived Halo Online. The map has been in testing for the last month or so, but 343 want to gather more details on how it plays and performs, so are keeping it for custom matches for the time being. There’s also the new Escalation Slayer mode for Halo: Reach, Halo 4, and Halo 2: Anniversary, which plays to the rules of Gun Game in Call of Duty. Each kill will progress you through a series of weapons, with the winner the first to make it all the way through. Then there’s: Team changing in Custom games Mouse & Keyboard support for Xbox Secondary bindings for Mouse & Keyboard FOV and Crosshair position options for Xbox! Expanded audio options for game audio output device, voice chat input, voice chat output and voice chat threshold – these will override Windows default settings. Expanded accessibility options: text-to-speech, speed-to-text, Narration on Xbox and Disable background video. Per game Gameplay Settings. Players can now see their armor customizations in first-person in Halo 3. The Create menu has been renamed to Creative. Added support for replacement of Halo: Combat Evolved maps with maps made for Custom Edition. Added XP and progression rank information when viewing a remote user’s Player Details. Added options to Invite and Join players when viewing their Player Details from the post-game carnage report. The Halo 4 loadouts menu is now more consistent with the other customization menus. Increased the Forge palette budget on the Halo: Reach map “Breakneck.” And then there’s still the sweeping pass of bug fixes across all of the games, such as Halo: CE’s cinematics no longer have 30Hz animations. See the full patch notes here. After its rocky start, it’s truly impressive how committed to the legacy of Halo 343 Industries has become. The last year and a half has seen a staggering amount of updates for a compilation that was released all the way back in 2014. From the staggered release of the games on PC, to the Xbox Series X|S enhancements, the addition of cross-play, and a litany of smaller tweaks and improvements (such as this update’s FOV settings on console).
