Hearthstone builds upon the lore of the Warcraft series, using characters, creatures, and relics from the series. Players use mana points to cast spells or summon minions to attack the opponent, with the goal to reduce the opponent's health to zero. In contrast to other games developed at Blizzard, Hearthstone was developed by a smaller team as to develop an experimental game based on the general appreciation of collectable card games at the company. The game has been favorably reviewed by critics and proven successful for Blizzard. Hearthstone is purposely designed to exclude card trading, instead allowing players to disenchant unwanted cards into a quantity of arcane dust, which can then be used to craft new cards of the player's choice. Hearthstone is free-to-play, only requiring the player to download the game client for their computer or device after setting up a free Battle.net account; supporting ongoing development of the game comes from micropayments.
