Is Monster Hunter Rise coming to PlayStation and Xbox? After being announced for Nintendo Switch last year during a Nintendo Direct showcase, fans of the popular Capcom series have been asking whether upcoming sequel, Monster Hunter: Rise will also be available on PS4 and Xbox One (as well as the newer PS5 and Xbox Series X|S). In this guide, we cover: Is Monster Hunter Rise a Nintendo Switch exclusive? Will Monster Hunter Rise release on PS4 and Xbox? What is Monster Hunter Rise? Is Monster Hunter Rise a Nintendo Switch exclusive? During the game’s surprise reveal, it was announced that Monster Hunter Rise will be coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch on March 26th, 2021. The game was announced alongside turn-based RPG sequel, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, delivering a one-two punch of MH goodness on Nintendo’s hybrid handheld console. Monster Hunter Rise appears to have been designed primarily with the Nintendo Switch hardware in mind. Although the series debuted on PlayStation 2 back in the day, it was portable gaming systems that were largely responsible for its runaway success. It has been confirmed that there’s an exclusivity deal in place for Monster Hunter Rise on the Switch. According to information obtained during 2020’s Capcom data hack, Nintendo paid the Japanese published around $6 million for exclusivity which Capcom were reportedly wary of, though accepted. Will Monster Hunter Rise release on PS4 and Xbox? Capcom haven’t announced a PS4 or Xbox version of Monster Hunter Rise, but that doesn’t completely rule out the sequel coming to these platforms. Especially now we know that a PC port is coming in 2022. Firstly, from a purely technical standpoint, there’s nothing stopping these other systems running Monster Hunter Rise. Although grander in scale and ambition compared to those earlier 3DS entries in the series, in terms of visual fidelity and performance it clearly lags behind 2017’s Monster Hunter: World. After details were leaked via last year’s Capcom hack, the publisher has recently confirmed reports of a PC version. It’s common to see exclusivity deals in place, video games making the leap onto other platforms once this time period has expired. This could certainly be the case with Monster Hunter Rise – right now the PC port is slated for 2022 which could mean it arrives next February, twelves months after its Nintendo Switch debut. If you don’t own a Nintendo Switch then there’s a good chance you haven’t been keeping tabs on Monster Hunter Rise even if you played Monster Hunter: World on PS4, Xbox, or PC. What is Monster Hunter Rise? Rise is neither a direct sequel, nor a spin-off. This is Capcom trying something new with the well-established formula, branching out in a new direction that circles back to Monster Hunter’s roots as a portable focused title. There’s an emphasis on verticality this time around with player movement being far more dynamic than in previous entries. Monster Hunter Rise allows players to utilise a handy tool called the Wirebug to swinging and grapple through the air. Mounting surfaces and wall-running also feature in the player’s moveset alongside the Palamute, a rideable canine companion that can help cover ground faster – it even drifts! Of course, Monster Hunter fans can expect new creatures to battle against with more armour and weapons being added to your arsenal. All fourteen weapon classes that featured in Monster Hunter: World will make the leap over to Rise with expanded movesets and abilities. Monster Hunter Rise will release on March 26th for the Nintendo Switch. Even if you don’t own the console, you may want to keep tabs on Capcom’s upcoming game as it could be coming to PS4, and Xbox sometime in 2022 after its re-release on PC.
