Monster Hunter World: PS4/PS4 Pro vs Xbox One/Xbox One X Comparison + Performance Test

+1

The graphics are quite the improvement for a Monster Hunter game, specially compared to 3DS. But, that's not the interesting part of this video.

There's something really interesting going on here. There's some sort of render trick, where the image gets a bit blurrier when you're moving. It's some sort of thing like checkerboard rendering, but it blurs the screen.

There's three graphics settings to choose from in the game:

Comparing PS4 Pro to Xbox One X with "prioritize resolution", we see PS4 Pro runs at a higher resolution in checkerboard, but XboneX runs at a lower resolution without the checkerboard. I would prefer the lower resolution without the checkerboard, personally. Though that weird blurring still happens when moving. There's also lots of stippling and jagged edges on the PS4 Pro. However, there's more detail on the PS4 Pro.

Prioritize performance pulls back all the settings for a higher frame rate, but PS4 Pro still has better graphics.

With prioritize graphics, the two are equal.

As for frame rates, base Playstation 4 hovers around 30fps, but usually a bit lower, between 25 to 30fps. It causes some jittering and problems. The base Xbox One is in a worse position. It hangs more around 25fps, and DF says it feels pretty jerky. It definitely seems like the PS4 version is the better of the two, though you'll want a PS4 Pro or XboneX (or PC when it comes out) for the best experience.

XboneX ends up around 40fps in high performance mode, PS4 Pro ends up around 30 to 40fps. They are both pretty close, but not near 60fps for the important parts of the game. Pretty low and weak for an action game like this.

It sounds like if you want a guaranteed 60fps for Monster Hunter World, you'll definitely have to wait for the PC port, which is planned for fall 2018.
