The new Mortal Kombat movie is out this April, in cinemas if they are open in your part of the world and also a day one release on HBO Max in the United States. Even though it’s out in a few months there’s not been a trailer for the movie but we do have the first promotional images. The story follows a new character, MMA fighter Cole Young, who is completely oblivious to the world of Mortal Kombat but soon learns of his heritage when Sub Zero hunts him down. He teams up with Jax and Sonya and soon finds himself in the punchy kicky world of the game, meeting Raiden, Kano, Liu Kang and other familiar characters. So far the following characters have been confirmed: Cole Young (Lewis Tan), Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim), Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Jax (Mehcad Brooks), Kano (Josh Lawson), Shang Tsung (Chin Han), Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada), Kung Lao (Max Huang), Mileena (Sisi Stringer), Nitara (Elissa Cadwell), and Kabal (Daniel Nelson). Let’s take a look at the images. Who is that you may ask? Well it’s Sub Zero and Scorpion before they got all spooky and started wearing matching outfits. This is taken from the opening scene on the movie, writer Greg Russo recently tweeted “All I can say is the bar for opening scenes has been set…” Here’s Sub Zero doing his icy thing. Jax is having trouble at the post office, his nicely wrapped rock just won’t fit in the slot in the post box. Rather than have a big metal plate and a cybernetic eye, Kano has a nasty scratch. In an unexpected twist, Kung Lao and Liu Kang have entered a Vogueing competition. Strike a pose! Sonya kicking the crap out of Kano is less unexpected. And finally, our new hero, Cole Young. The movie is out on April 16th and is R-rated, which means we should be seeing fatalities in all their gory glory on the big screen. Source: CBR

Mortal Kombat

Following Midway's bankruptcy, the Mortal Kombat development team was acquired by Warner Bros. The development of the first game was originally based on an idea that Ed Boon and John Tobias had of making a video game starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, but as that idea fell through, a fantasy-horror themed...
