I played 4 and I'm jumping right into 5. I skipped the remaster because I didn't think I could finish it in time for shin megami tensei v. I really wish the released some remastered games between announcing shin megami tensei v and actually releasing it. It's been several years and it's one of the reasons why I bought a switch in the first place.
