Review: Shining Resonance Refrain (PS4)

+1

I actually just got done playing the Nintendo Switch demo of Shining Resonance Refrain last night. I saw a lot of potential there, but I wasn't sure how well it would hold up as the game went on. And this review from Push Square really addresses a lot of questions I had about Shining Resonance Refrain, like "Does the battle system get more intense", "How repetitive does everything get?", etc.

Overall, the story seems like it's a bit cliched, which is no surprise. I got that from playing the demo right away. It starts out on a rescue a prince mission where the prince is very shy but has a huge power that he doesn't want to use.

The text did also seem to drag on at times in the demo. I feel like it would have been improved, a lot, if there was an auto mode, but there's lots of dialogue between characters, and every time someone is done talking you have to press a button to continue. There's a lot of dialogue in Shinging Resonance Refrain, so get ready for it. Not to mention, as Push Square claimed, I found myself not caring after dialogue dragged on and just pressing the button not really paying attention.

The battle system is fun, I do enjoy it. It's very similar to Tales Of games. It's basically an action based combat system with RPG.

Shining Resonance Refrain has some issues, but at the core it seems like it's a good game. I feel that way after playing the demo, and I can see what Push Square is talking about in their review. However, I think these issues are greatly relieved by the fact that the game is only $45 in the eShop, and it's not a full priced game.
