2. Sonic Mania is one of two Sonic games being released for the 25th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog. It's a throwback to the original 2d Sonic games on the Sega Genesis, featuring pixel art graphics, springs and bouncers from the traditional games, and 2d gameplay. Several zones will be brought back, which look extremely similar, if not identical, to the original zones. New zones are also being added and can be seen in the announcement trailer. There are three playable characters, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.
   
   Several developers who have worked on some of the best Sonic games, specifically Sonic Generations and Sonic Colors, are working on this game as well. It is scheduled for an early 2017 release.
