Controls feel a lot better
I was always a fan of the Wii U game pad, specially with how it was used in Splatoon, but I found myself resetting the camera non-stop on the original Splatoon. It felt like it'd always end up off, and I'd always keep pressing Y to reset the camera. I know that's not a popular opinion and a lot of people hated the Wii U game pad.
When I play Splatoon 2, I keep the two joy cons separate, and feels a lot better that way. Specially because the joy cons are so light and small. I dare say it almost feels more like playing with a mouse that way, as opposed to a game pad. It also lets me just lay on the couch like a lazy bum and keeps my hands apart, in a comfortable position.
Whether it's the controller, or they improved things in Splatoon 2, I find the controls to be a lot more enjoyable. I usually only reset the camera at the start of the match, and maybe once or twice during the match if I move around.
The first few matches I really missed having the map on the game pad, but I got over it pretty quickly. Everyone else doesn't have it now, either. There's a definite improvement. And I say this as someone who wasn't sure if Splatoon 2 was worth the money after I spent so much time on Splatoon 1.
