Retro Studios Developing Star Fox Racing Game for Switch — Rumor

I know fans have been begging for an F-Zero revival for a long time. And Diddy Kong Racing is in purgatory ever since Rareware was sold off to Microsoft. A lot of important parts of Diddy Kong Racing were sold off, and the entire series became a cross-licensing nightmare with Nintendo and Microsoft unable to do anything with it.

But, this is quite the rumor, and it sounds like it would basically be Diddy Kong Racing (hub world, progression, different vehicles, etc) with a Star Fox skin and characters, with some gameplay like F-Zero (fast and chaotic).

I usually don't buy into rumors, but this sounds like it would be an awesome game idea.

My take on it is that I could easily see Nintendo coming out with a game like this. Switch only has Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as a first party racing game, which is just a port of a Wii U game with all the DLC. There is no strong first party Nintendo racing game on the Switch, in fact, there's not too many good racing games on the Switch at all.

It wouldn't make sense for Nintendo to release a new Mario Kart, not after Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been out for such a short while. And they need a new racing game.

I don't know why they couldn't just revive F-Zero, though IIRC, Miyamoto has claimed he didn't know where to take the series and how to improve on it. Diddy Kong Racing is lost in legal problems with Microsoft.

This sounds like a very obvious solution to getting a new racing game out. Lets hope this rumor works out, I have some faith it'd be really cool. Retro Studios is rumored to be working on it, which is great, because they make some really good games.
