Microsoft have dialled up a cracking set of games for their semi-regular Free Play Days promotion as part of Xbox Live Gold. Any subscribers are now able to download Star Wars: Squadrons, Dragon Ball FighterZ and Yooka-Laylee and play them in their entirety all through this weekend. The promotion is live now and running through to Sunday, 17th January at 11:59PM PST (18th Jan 07:59AM GMT in the UK), with discounts on two of the three games also available for if you want to take your progress from this weekend and keep on playing. You can download the games directly on your Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One – visit the Xbox Store, enter the Gold member area and look for the Free Play Days collection – or you can sign into your Xbox Live account with an active Xbox Live Gold membership and start the install remotely. To grease those wheels a little, I’ve got a set of three links for you, as well as details of the discounts: Star Wars: Squadrons – £20.99 £34.99 Dragon Ball FighterZ – £49.99 (no discount) Yooka-Laylee – £8.74 £34.99 Star Wars: Squadrons is sure to be the most appealing of the three, as the newest game being made available to play. You get to hop into the cockpits of X-wings, TIE fighters and other fighters from both sides of the galactic struggle, zipping through a single-player campaign and then diving into multiplayer matches online. It’s seen a few small content updates over the last few months, as well as performance enhancements for the Xbox Series X|S consoles. In our Star Wars: Squadrons review, Dom wrote: Star Wars Squadrons has taken an impressive first step in revitalising the Star Wars fighter pilot game. With a tale that feels like a genuine part of the galaxy far, far away, and space combat that gives you the tools to be an X-Wing or TIE fighting ace. Whether you’re on the light or the dark side of the Force, this is a game that Star Wars fans need to play. Meanwhile, Dragon Ball FighterZ is one of the best anime fighting games (and just fighting games in general) of the last few years. Our review said: 2018 is off to a strong start with Dragon Ball FighterZ an early contender for this year’s best fighting game.  By shattering some boundaries, Dragon Ball FighterZ has combat that’s more than worth getting into, but also a diverse roster and some phenomenal presentation. The Story Mode could have been improved if it were more streamlined, but it’s a mere blemish on an otherwise spectacular game. And finally, Yooka-Laylee offers us a nice slice of classic collectathon 3D platforming, for a modern era: Of all the potential hurdles to snag on in creating a 3D platformers in the style of the late nineties classics, Playtonic deftly avoids the most egregious ones by far. At its very core, Yooka-Laylee succeeds in reviving a format long forgotten and does so with such vigor and passion. However, players shouldn’t expect it to reinvent the genre. Three great ways for Xbox gamers to wile away another lockdown weekend. Are you going to pop anything in your download queue for the next few days of gaming? Source: Xbox
