Good world themes

At the time, Super Mario Bros 3 set the stage for the best overworld themes in a game. You start out with a basic grass land, and you move to deserts, ice lands, giant lands, pipe lands. All sorts of really cool and creative stuff. And each world made good use of the stage's themes to affect gameplay.
