Update 2.0 brings a ton of new stuff to Mario Maker 2
Mario Maker 2 has been slow to be updated. So slow some people have given up on Super Mario Maker 2 updates.
Nintendo has dropped a new trailer showing the new features in the 2.0 update coming to Super Mario Maker 2 on December 5th, 2019.
Spike, the enemy who throws Spike balls from Super Mario Bros 3 is back. But, his Spike balls can be used to break blocks, trigger ? Blocks, and more. In snow levels, Spike will throw wheels snowballs instead of Spike balls, which is pretty cool.
Pokey, the tall cactus enemy is in the Super Mario Maker 2 update. He has different behavior based on day or night mode, appears as a snowman in winter levels, and you can control how tall he is.
Frozen blocks from Super Mario Bros 3 debut too. These blocks can contain coins. They are frozen solid until any source of fire touches them.
3d World mode gets dash plates, which make you run faster.
The coolest new feature in the Super Mario Maker 2 update is playable Link in the Super Mario Bros 1 theme. Super Mario Maker 1 had different power ups, but the were mostly cosmetic. When you play as Link, you'll have an entirely new move set. Link can use his bow and arrow which shoots three ways, deflect attacks and spiked enemies or objects with his shield, break certain blocks with his bombs, and attack with his sword. He also has his move set from early Zelda games. Which means options like a dash attack, down thrust, etc.
There will be an official speed run mode in Super Mario Maker 2. This mode features levels created by Nintendo. Ghost replay will appear when you play the level in a time trial. The fastest players will win some cosmetic good. Levels will be updated by Nintendo over time.
There are a few other new features, including p blocks, which trigger with a p switch and can't be broken. A huge help for coop and versus levels that can be broken with p switches and coins or blocks being destroyed.
That's the majority of the be features in the 2.0 update of Super Mario Maker 2. There should be some bug fixes and other smaller features added as well. Be sure to watch the video for all the details and new features in Super Mario Maker 2. This update took a long time to get here, but we're getting a new game mode, a well done power up, and some good new features. I'd say the wait for new features in Super Mario Maker 2 is well worth the wait. Super Mario Maker 2 is finally getting a major update.
