The Medium live action trailer looks much better than average

www.thesixthaxis.comIn the run up to the release of The Medium for Xbox Series X|S and PC on 28th January, Bloober Team have splashed out on a slickly produced live action trailer to capture the scream-filled horror that they’re trying to conjure. It is, if you’ll excuse the pun, much better than average and absolutely rivals the production values found in big budget TV and film, albeit at in a svelte two and a half minute package. Hints of Stranger Things’ Upside Down? Maybe! Produced with VFX and animation studio Platige Image – Tomasz BagiÅ„ski (who made some iconic The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 cinematics) as writer and creative producer and Pawel MaÅ›lona as director – the trailer throws high-end production values at the atmosphere and art style of the game, inspired by painter ZdzisÅ‚aw BeksiÅ„ski. The game centres around Marianna, the titular medium who can bridge the real world and spirit world, a mysterious man named Thomas, a childlike spirit called Sadness, and The Maw, an entity that is trapped in the spirit world but can reach through to the real one. The trailer follows on from a 14-minute gameplay video released last week that shows off some of the mixed realities and how they blend together. This can make the use of split-screens in an innovative way to render both worlds at once, or with more straightforward switching back and forth between the two. The gameplay trailer also shows off how The Maw reaches between worlds. Voiced by Troy Baker, it is trapped in the spirit world and Marianne can see it when she is inhabiting that side of reality. However, it can also see her. Switching back to the physical world makes Marianne invisible to the Maw (and it to her), but doesn’t prevent sounds from being hear, allowing it to hunt you if you’re making too much noise or being reckless.
