www.thesixthaxis.comBloober Team’s dual-reality horror game The Medium will release for PlayStation 5 on 3rd September 2021. A PC and Xbox Series X|S console launch exclusive in January this year, The Medium was the latest exploration of psychological horror by the Polish developer. Its unique hook was its use of the modern hardware to render two views into the game world, revealing two realities: the real world and the spirit realm. The game follows the Marianne, the titular medium, as she tentatively explores both of these world at the same time, encountering a meysterious man named Thomas, a childlike spirit called Sadness, and The Maw (voice by Troy Baker), an entity that is trapped in the spirit world but can reach through to the real one. This forms part of the game’s horror, as The Maw hunts Marianne through the game. It can see Marianne when she is inhabiting the spirit realm, but switching back to the physical realm makes Marianne invisible to it… but it can still hear her. Using this, you can avoid and manipulate The Maw in certain ways. In our The Medium review, Steve wrote: The Medium is a really good horror adventure with some stand out ideas and excellent presentation. It makes the most of its influences to create an atmospheric and involving narrative, but its wider context as a next-gen exclusive may lead many to expect it to be a grander step forward than it is. Taken on its own merits, and particularly for genre fans, this is a genuinely great game and I look forward to replaying it to take in all the amazing details and touches that I may have missed first time through. With some questions left unanswered, I hope it does well and develops into a franchise. The one difference between the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 version of the game will be that the latter takes advantage of the DualSense controller. How has yet to be revealed by Bloober. For the PS5 release, Koch Media will be bringing The Medium to retail for the first time. The game will be available for PC, Xbox Series X|S and PS5 in standard edition and The Medium: Two Worlds Special Launch Edition. This will come with a Steelbook case, the game’s soundtrack and a 32-page hardcover artbook. Source: press release
