I went back to Mira and I miss a game like this - Xenoblade Chronicles X2 when?

I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but it was a big change from Xenoblade Chronicles X. X is an open world, sci-fi adventure where you land on an alien planet after Earth is destroyed, and you basically end up finding a home on a new planet, Mira, meet alien races, etc.

Going back and playing for an hour or two, I really remembered how much fun and how deep some of the game was. Combat was simple, but unlike regular Xenoblade games, X relied heavily on exploration and trying to help establish a base of operations on a new planet. Xenoblade 1 and 2 are definitely more story focused, and a lot more linear.

Giant beasts are all over the screen. If I wasn't so strong, I would have felt pretty threatened. But my mechs are so well outfitted and so strong I destroyed everything that came in my path with ease. It brought back a lot of memories of running around on foot, being terrified of these giant beasts who could one-shot me with no problem. And now they are absolutely zero threat because I've gotten so strong.

As good as Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was, it just didn't feel the same. I miss the exploration and I miss the depth of building out a mech. Xenoblade 2 just didn't have it.

The closest thing we got for an open world Nintendo game on the Switch generation was Breath of the Wild, which was also developed largely in part by the same studio who makes the Xenoblade games (Monolith Soft). But BOTW just doesn't compare, it's lacking all the RPG elements, replace with a simple weapon system where weapons break.

Xenoblade Chronicles X definitely had some faults, localization, censorship, etc. It could definitely be improved upon. But overall I had a really great experience with the game.

All of this left me wanting to play another Xenoblade Chronicles X2 game. At the time of writing, the only real thing I could find about Xenoblade Chronicles X2 was speculation by SuperMetalDave64.

We have some hope for Xenoblade Chronicles X2, it the Xenoblade 2 art book, one of important people at Monolith Soft said they wanted to make a Xenoblade Chronicles X2, as well as a Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and even some new IP.

Unfortunately, the only thing we've officially heard from Monolith Soft since then is the definitive version of Xenoblade Chronicles 1.

Monolith Soft says that porting Xenoblade Chronicles X to Switch which be as much work as much making a new Xenoblade Chronicles X2 game. So, we'll just have to see what happens. The Xenoblade series has done extremely well with Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which was the fastest selling Xenoblade game, ever.

I assume that the majority of Monolith Soft staff are working on the new Breath Of The Wild sequel, as Monolith Soft worked on the original Breath Of The Wild. We'll have to see where Xenoblade Chronicles X2 ends up. It seems they are busy, but there's definitely a desire by Monolith Soft to make it happen. Xenoblade Chronicles X left a lot of open ended questions at the end of the game that could be answered.

Xenoblade Chronicles X

An indirect sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles, it's a science fiction JRPG in a world where Earth has been destroyed by aliens. You are a part of a large ship that left Earth as it was being destroyed in hopes you'd settle on a new home planet that's safe. You land there and find out that there are several...
