The Dreamcast, SEGA's final attempt to salvage their poor performance in the previous console gen. The Dreamcast was revolutionary back in the day being the first console to offer online capabilties yet SEGA mismanaged this console as well, bringing its discontinuation in 2001, barely 3 years after its launch.Selling barely over 9 million units, two million short of the safety mark, the Dreamcast was the first 6th gen console to leave the market. Despite its short life-span, the Dreamcast is home to many classic - must play games. The Dreamcast is the home of the arcade,of multiplayer fun and hidden gems. Many of its titles have been ported to other consoles yet very few of those ports are actually better than the Dreamcast ones: Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure, and Grandia II come to mind.

So what's so great about a console that ultimately failed? Why should I bother getting one? Any gamer should keep an open mind to consoles they haven't tried and the Dreamcast not only packs a punch, it has a few surprises up its sleeve. If one wants shmups, look no further as the Dreamcast houses many must-have titles like Gunbird 2, Ikaruga, Mars Matrix and Twinkle Star Sprites. The Dreamcast also has its fair share of horror games, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, D2, Illbleed and Blue-Stinger just to name a few. Likewise, its library holds some rather experimental and outright bizarre games like Seaman, Rez and Segaga. To this day the Dreamcast is still seeing releases in the form of its very active homebrew community. Games like Gunlord, Volgarr the Viking and Pier Solar and the Great Architects, and we're not even touching on the Dreamcast's arcade fun: Dynamite Cop, Hydrothunder, Zombie Revenge, Crazy Taxi, Cannon-Spike and ChuChu Rocket. Ultimately, this console, much like the Saturn, was forgotten among its rivals due to some of SEGA's baffling decisions, don't let their mistakes withold your fun.
